Prairie Village Museum gets ready for 33rd Annual Village Fair
Join us for our second annual Village Fair Pre-Party on Saturday August, 11th and our 33rd Annual Village Fair on Sunday, August 12th. We're upping the fun this year with a car run, blacksmithing class, and more music and food! Standard Museum Admission is $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for veterans and seniors, $4.00 for kids 5+. Kids under 5 free. Museum Members and Active Duty Servicepeople are free. There is a 2-day discount for those who want to attend both days. Adults $12.00, Kids $6.00, Veterans and Seniors $8.00, Museum members and Active Duty servicepeople get in free. Full schedule of events for both days are attached.
Saturday will begin with a hands-on blacksmithing class by Dean Hagen and associates from 10:00-4:00. Attendees will be able to take home what they make. Dean enjoys teaching people the craft and has been at it for years. He travels the state educating people on what it took to be a blacksmith in the past and how vital they were to our early towns in North Dakota.
Our first Museum to Museum Car Run will begin at 1:00. Cars of all kinds can join us for an enjoyable drive to Minot. Prairie Village Museum has partnered with Dakota Territory Air Museum to offer a special tour for our car run attendees. People are encouraged to join us in Minot at 2:30 even if they cannot join the car run in Rugby. Glenn Blackaby, director of the Minot museum, will meet people for a special tour at 2:30. The car run will leave Minot around 4:30 and return to Rugby to join our evening festivities at 5:30. Food by Henry’s 90wt from Towner, ND will be served alongside beer from Minot’s Souris River Brewing. Rugby local Dave Trottier will provide music all night. Sunday morning sees the opening of the classic Village Fair. Our Prairie Village comes alive with costumed actors, vendors, demonstrations, food, and music. Events kick-off at 9:00 and run until 6:00 p.m. Some new things this year will be a costume contest. Anyone dressed in full costume gets in free and will be eligible to win our contest. The PVM is also trying out local area food trucks to serve the event. Fred’s Chuckwagon will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs, while Minot’s Cheesesteak Factory will be serving up lemonade and cheesesteaks. Rugby’s own German from Russia group will be serving ethnic dishes.
Entertainment this year will be provided by our own WWI Choir. The Choir was organized by Museum board member Edie Wurgler for our WWI themed events in 2018. They performed to a packed house in May and due to high demand, we’ve invited them back for an encore performance. They will perform in the Church at 12:00 and 2:00. Other activities, especially for kids and families, will be available all day and especially from 1:00-5:00.
Museum director Stephanie Steinke says, “Rugby is really hopping this weekend! It will be a great time to join us in Rugby. We’ve got a lot of events going on and they celebrate everything made in ND.” She continued, “Rugby’s Farmer’s Market opens at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and our first ever Downtown Maker’s Market street fair featuring crafters from across the state will be open from 10:00-3:00. Our Museum events will be running all day Saturday and Sunday with something for everyone. If you haven’t seen Rugby or the Prairie Village Museum recently it’s really good time to check us out again!”
